"Whitebait was a great starter. The New Zealand seafood promotion had good selections. I had the mussels in safron sauce-excellent."
"There were only 3 tables the night we visited the restaurant. We were the first table, service was pleasant and great. When other tables arrived, it became slow, almost non-existent. We got to "wave" to get attendtion. Not accpetable for slow night. Food quality was average, but over priced. For that "out-of-the-way" location, a beef steak with fries cost $48, is not value for money. A bottle.." more reviews

Whitebait was a great starter. The New Zealand seafood promotion had good selections. I had the mussels in safron sauce-excellent. (See my reviews (4) - April, 2008) Overall 5.3 - Food 6, Ambience 7, Value 3, Service 5
There were only 3 tables the night we visited the restaurant. A bottle of less-than-average wine cost $65. In short, a normal/ everyday restaurant charging a fine dining price. Not worth the visit. (January, 2008) Overall 8.5 - Food 8, Ambience 8, Value 9, Service 9
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful first-time experience at Whitebait and Kale. We were greeted by a friendly young man who was patient with us as we carefully read through the menu. We placed our drink orders and ordered some grilled calamari to start while we made our entree choices. We were not rushed and were given time to enjoy our drinks and appetizer (delicious with the mint, dried cranberries and couscous) before placing our dinner order. I decided on the Seared proscuitto wrapped monkfish, crushed potatoes: with light pink peppercorn cream sauce. It was just as described. A very light cream sauce as I had hoped and a generous portion. My husband enjoyed a special from the chalkboard menu a duo of pork belly and char-grilled baby ribs with a fantastic blend of Moroccan spices. At first look it appeared dry, but one taste changed our minds. The dry rub was a perfect complement to the pork and again a very generous serving. The only let down of the evening was the dessert. The flourless chocolate cake was very dry and the icecream had an odd flavor. The banana bread pudding was more like banana pudding than bread pudding. We agreed we would certainly dine here again and pass on dessert or give the Pavlova a try since they claim it's one of their best. (July, 2007) |
